Sono Group's Solar Bus Kit Reduces CO2 Emissions in Public Transportation

Sono Group N.V., a solar technology company, has demonstrated the effectiveness of its Solar Bus Kit in reducing carbon emissions in public transportation. The kit, showcased in a pilot project in Hof, Bavaria, Germany, features 16 semi-flexible photovoltaic panels on the roof of a bus, controlled by an innovative solar charge controller operating in eight zones for maximum sun efficiency.

The Solar Bus Kit enables immediate CO2 reduction, contributing to the decarbonization of the local bus fleet. Sono achieved a significant milestone in January 2025 by obtaining Germany’s first national road approval (ABE) for the Solar Bus Kit, validating its deployment readiness and regulatory compliance.

The technology is designed for easy scalability across different commercial vehicle types—diesel, hybrid, and electric—enhancing its potential impact on public transportation emissions reduction. While exact quantitative CO2 reduction figures from the Hof pilot are not provided in the available information, the design and regulatory validation strongly indicate the kit's practical effectiveness in curbing emissions at the local public transportation level.

ÖPNV-Service Hagen, a partner in the project, aims to continue working with Sono Group to maximize production capacity in Europe and offer fast, professional retrofitting and maintenance. The collaboration is part of Stadtwerke Hof's long-term strategy to promote the switch to electric mobility.

The first HofBus bus with the integrated Solar Bus Kit has been on the road in Hof since it received road approval from the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÜV). Sono Group N.V., trades under the symbol SEVCF on the OTCQB, is on a mission to accelerate the revolution of mobility by making every vehicle solar.
