Funding secured for 33 electric vehicle charging stations by Tellus Power in the second round of California's NEVI program financing

In a significant development for electric vehicle (EV) transportation, California's National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program has resumed following revised guidance from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) in mid-2025 [1][2][4]. Previously suspended in February 2025 for a review, the program is now moving forward with funding and deployment of EV charging infrastructure.

The California Energy Commission has proposed $36.88 million in awards for the state's second round of NEVI program funding, which aims to support up to 65 EV fast-charging sites statewide [3][5]. Among these sites, 33 are expected to use charging hardware from Tellus Power Group, a California-based company known for building reliable EV chargers [6][7][8].

Tellus Power offers DC fast chargers in 180 kW and 360 kW versions, and their chargers support CCS, CHAdeMO, and/or NACS connectors, making them versatile for a wide range of EV models [9][10]. Mike Calise, CEO of Tellus Power, expressed pride in providing EV chargers to a partner in California, further solidifying their role in the state's EV charging infrastructure [11].

The NEVI program's revised guidance emphasizes interoperability, user-friendliness, and prioritizing underserved and rural areas to ensure equitable infrastructure deployment [4]. This aligns with Tellus Power's commitment to providing accessible and reliable charging solutions across California.

The resumption of the NEVI program in California marks a significant step towards the national transition to electric transportation infrastructure. With Tellus Power's involvement, the state is well-positioned to enable a robust and accessible EV charging network.

However, the NEVI program has faced political changes and ongoing legal battles [12][13]. Despite these challenges, California is pushing forward with NEVI implementation, aiming to provide a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure for its residents and visitors.
