Maro Raises $4.3 Million to Combat Human Errors and AI-Exacerbated Cybersecurity Threats

Maro, a cutting-edge cognitive security platform, has secured $4.3 million in seed funding from Downing Capital Group. This investment will accelerate the development and deployment of Maro's innovative solution, designed to reduce human-related security risks in an increasingly complex threat environment.

Founded in late 2024 by Jadon Montero (CEO), Gwen Betts (CXO), and Jen Andre (CTO), Maro aims to manage and mitigate human risk in real-time, before issues reach the SOC. The team behind Maro has extensive experience in cybersecurity, specifically in solving human-focused problems, having worked together across three companies, including several with successful exits.

In today's digital landscape, the acceleration of generative AI, remote work, and shadow SaaS usage increases the risk of users running afoul of company policy without realizing it. Maro's platform is specifically designed to manage the risks associated with these trends. It combats human errors and AI-exacerbated cybersecurity threats by proactively addressing human risk factors such as social engineering, insider threats, and misuse of AI through real-time behavioral interventions powered by AI.

Maro's platform offers several key features. It proactively mitigates human risk by monitoring and intervening in real time during social engineering and insider threat scenarios. It addresses threats exacerbated by AI misuse by recognizing patterns of behavior that indicate vulnerability or compromise. Moreover, it helps security teams manage human factors, which are often the weakest point in cybersecurity defenses, thereby reducing the likelihood of breaches caused by human error or manipulation.

Maro's platform provides real-time visibility into workforce behaviors and reinforces secure actions in daily workflows. It defends against social engineering attacks and intercepts clickjacking and typosquatting. Additionally, it ensures that governance, risk, and compliance happen in the moment by offering enforcement of behavioral policies within workflows.

Jesse Downing, CEO at Downing Capital Group, is involved in the investment in Maro. This investment is aimed at addressing the challenges posed by the acceleration of generative AI, remote work, and shadow SaaS usage. With this funding, Maro will expand its team, develop its product, and launch its strategy, aiming to provide a much-needed solution to the growing problem of human-related cybersecurity risks.
