Germany Awards 201 MW in Solar PV Contracts, Industry Urges Policy Review
Germany's Federal Network Agency has awarded contracts to 36 solar PV projects, totalling 201 MW. This follows a joint tender for large-scale solar and onshore wind. Meanwhile, Germany's solar industry lobby, BSW Solar, urges a review of the 52 GW support cap.
The second joint auction saw an average price of €0.0527/kWh, a rise from the previous April auction's €0.0467/kWh. Despite this, Germany continues to lead globally in solar power capacity per capita, thanks to its robust expansion. In October 2018 alone, Germany added 182 MW of new PV capacity, primarily from small and medium-sized rooftops.
Germany is on track to meet its 2018 expansion goal of 2.5 GW. Sonnen GmbH, a solar energy company, has received prequalification to participate in Germany's primary control energy market, aiming to supply 100 MW. By the end of 2018, Germany's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 45.3 GW, with over 1.5 million installations nationwide.
The Federal Network Agency's tender and BSW Solar's call for policy review indicate Germany's commitment to solar energy. With robust expansion and leading global rankings, Germany's solar industry shows no signs of slowing down.
