Global unveiling of Honda's initial electric motorcycle takes place on September 2
The Japanese automotive giant, Honda, has announced the upcoming launch of a large-capacity electric motorcycle, scheduled for unveiling on 2 September 2025. This new electric bike is expected to deliver performance on par with a 500cc petrol motorcycle, offering approximately 50 bhp and significant torque.
Key features of the upcoming Honda electric motorcycle include a large TFT display, wide Daytime Running Lights (DRL), bar-end mirrors on clip-on handlebars, and CCS2 fast charging capability. However, the bike is not expected to be available in India soon due to limited market demand for high-priced electric motorcycles.
In a separate development, Honda is also working on an electric version of the Shine 100 motorcycle for the Indian market. This electric Shine is expected to launch sometime next year, utilising the existing Shine 100 platform with modifications and benefiting from Honda's growing battery swapping infrastructure. This move suggests a more affordable, commuter-focused electric motorcycle tailored to the Indian market.
Meanwhile, Honda has already introduced the QC1 and Activa e electric scooters in the domestic market. On the global front, the Ultraviolette F77 electric bike is currently on sale in Europe. The upcoming Honda electric motorcycle may be competing against the Ultraviolette F77 in the future.
As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, Honda is positioning itself to capitalise on this trend. The company is expected to introduce the new electric motorcycle at a later stage when the market is more mature for such a product. With its focus on advanced features, performance, and compatibility with fast chargers, the upcoming Honda electric motorcycle promises to be a significant player in the global electric motorcycle market.

The upcoming Honda electric motorcycle will not only compete with the Ultraviolette F77 electric bike in the global market but will also incorporate technology from sports motorcycles with advanced features, such as a large TFT display and significant torque, for improved performance. Despite the Indian market's limited demand for high-priced electric motorcycles, Honda is developing an electric version of the Shine 100 motorcycle for a more affordable, commuter-focused electric motorcycle tailored to this specific market.
