Guide for Monitoring Prescriptions via iOS and Android Devices

Streamlined Drug Management on Your Smartphone

Keeping tabs on medications is crucial, but making it a habit can be tricky. Over the years, I've struggled with maintaining a schedule since I started taking daily meds. However, with the rise of smartphones, I've finally found a pattern that works for me.

The significant breakthrough came when I shifted my pill-taking to mornings. Keeping water and my pills together helps me follow the instructions. From there, I utilize my smartphone's capabilities. I use Samsung Health for my Pixel 8 and Apple Health on my iPhone 15 Pro Max review unit, marking down my medication intake as soon as I reach my office.

Samsung Health and Apple Health both offer alert systems to ensure I don't forget. Samsung's alarm is quite aggressive, with a snooze option for 15 minutes at a time. If you have the Galaxy Watch 6, it'll also vibrate on your wrist. Apple's Health app reminds you subtly, but it's excellent for identifying potential drug interactions.

While third-party apps can track your medications, integrated solutions like the ones I mentioned are ideal. Apple Health even integrates with Siri, while Samsung Health offers features broader than Google Fit or Fitbit, which are compatible with the Pixel Watch.

Managing Medications on iOS

Apple's Health app makes medication tracking reasonably simple. To get started:

  1. Open the Health app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Browse, then navigate to Medications.
  3. Add your medications by name or scan them through the camera.
  4. Set your schedule and dosage, and turn on Follow-Up Reminders and Critical Alerts for extra security.

Medication Management on Android

Since Google Fit doesn't support medication reminders, you can opt for Samsung Health. I started using it when I switched to Samsung's wearable ecosystem for wellness tracking and have continued due to the wide range of features it offers compared to Google Fit or Fitbit.

You'll need a Samsung account to sync your data. Once you have that, setup is straightforward. Just search for your medication, enter details like how you take it and the dosage, then set a reminder. The schedule is the key to Samsung Health's reminders—the app will pop up at the same time every day to ask if you've taken your meds.
