Guide for Simplifying Solar Energy Implementation

In Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the Consumer Advice Centre NRW is urging for a swift simplification of the implementation process for plug-in solar modules, advocating for the use of standard power outlets for solar power generation, and pushing for a streamlined registration process for solar power usage.

The rapid demand for solar power systems, including plug-in solar devices, has led to a reduction in revenues for local and regional power suppliers. However, the Consumer Advice Centre NRW believes that these regulations are hindering the participation of many people in the energy transition.

Currently, a plug-in solar device must be registered with both the local network operator and the Federal Network Agency, a process that contains redundant bureaucracy. Moreover, some network operators in Germany still require the installation of a special socket for feed-in, which is unnecessary, expensive, and time-consuming. Electricians are reportedly not prioritizing installation of these special sockets due to their cumbersomeness.

However, around 200,000 plug-in solar devices in Germany are currently operating safely with Schuko plugs, and the majority of these devices in Rhein-Kreis Neuss are equipped and installed with Schuko plugs. The Consumer Advice Centre NRW is urging the removal of this requirement for a special socket for feed-in.

To simplify the process, the Consumer Advice Centre NRW proposes several measures. These include implementing a centralized digital registration platform for plug-in solar devices, adopting uniform technical standards for devices and their connection to existing power outlets, promoting smart metering, providing clear guidelines for users, and offering local government incentives or regulatory adjustments to encourage the use of plug-in solar devices.

Tenants in Rhein-Kreis Neuss can potentially earn money from solar power, but face obstacles. The Consumer Advice Centre NRW is advocating for the removal of these obstacles to facilitate wider participation in the energy transition.
