Guide for Transferring JIO Mobile Number in the Year 2022

In today's digital age, where staying at home has become the new norm due to the pandemic, the reliance on the internet for work has significantly increased. This has led many to reconsider their mobile service providers, and for Jio users who are dissatisfied with their services, here's a guide on how to port your number.

Eligibility Criteria

Before embarking on the porting process, it's essential to ensure your Jio number meets the eligibility criteria. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your number must be active with Jio.
  • Any pending dues on a postpaid connection must be cleared before porting.
  • Porting can be done within the same telecom circle (activation expected within 3 working days) or to another circle (up to 5 working days).
  • The number must have been active with Jio for at least 90 days, a general regulatory requirement for Mobile Number Portability in India.

Process to Port a Jio Mobile Number

  1. Obtain Unique Porting Code (UPC): Send an SMS from your Jio number to 1900 with the text "PORT" to get an 8-character UPC. This code is crucial for initiating the porting process.
  2. Submit Porting Application: Provide the UPC and submit a Customer Application Form (CAF) along with KYC documents to the new service provider where you want to port your number (e.g., BSNL or Airtel).
  3. Get New SIM from the Receiving Operator: After document verification, you will receive a new SIM which should be kept safe until the porting completes.
  4. Activation and Number Porting: The current and new operators process your request. You will receive an SMS with the porting date and time. At that time, your Jio SIM will stop working, and you need to insert the new operator’s SIM.
  5. No Service Interruption: You will continue to have service on the Jio SIM until porting completes and the new SIM is activated.

Additional Notes

  • The UPC is valid for a limited time (usually 3 days).
  • Once the porting request is accepted, you cannot change your mind without canceling the request.
  • For postpaid users, ensure you clear any pending bills.

This process is applicable for both prepaid and postpaid Jio connections wishing to migrate to other operators. It follows the general Mobile Number Portability regulations in India.

The porting process can be done at any retailer shop, not limited to Jio outlets. The process takes up to seven working days to complete.

Remember, if your Jio account has pending dues, you cannot request to port your number until you clear your dues. If you cannot afford WiFi, you may use a mobile network for calls and internet access.

Visit a retailer shop to request the porting of your Jio number to another network. The detailed information provided here is intended to help users port their Jio mobile number smoothly.
