GWM's Tank 500 SUV to commence pre-sales on August 11th for its updated model.
Great Wall Motor's Updated Tank 500 SUV: Power, Luxury, and Modern Technology
Pre-sales for Great Wall Motor's updated Tank 500 SUV will commence on August 11, following the brand's impressive sales performance in July, where the Tank brand sold 20,020 vehicles, accounting for 19.18 percent of GWM's monthly sales.
The updated Tank 500 SUV comes in two variants: the Hi4-T and Hi4-Z, each equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-liter engine and electric motors. Both models maintain the same exterior dimensions (~5078x1934x1905 mm) and robust towing capacity (up to 2,500 kg), blending ruggedness with luxury and modern PHEV technology.
Tank 500 Hi4-Z
The Hi4-Z is a powerhouse, featuring a 2.0L turbo petrol engine combined with dual electric motors in a triple-motor, four-wheel-drive setup. This setup produces a maximum output of 635 kW (approximately 865 hp) and peak torque of 1,195 Nm. The Hi4-Z accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and is equipped with a larger 59.05 kWh ternary lithium battery, enabling a pure electric WLTC range of up to 201 km and a total driving range of 1,096 km.
Advanced off-road capabilities are aided by suspension systems, underbody protection, and a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, and heated steering wheel. Luxury and tech upgrades include a built-in refrigerator, 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen, Nappa leather seats with heating and ventilation, wireless phone charging, and an advanced ADAS with lidar-based Coffee Pilot Ultra system.
Tank 500 Hi4-T
The Hi4-T offers a slightly less complex system than the Hi4-Z, with a 2.0L turbo petrol engine paired with an electric powertrain. It outputs approximately 130 kW peak motor output and 495 Nm torque for the electric motor component. The Hi4-T comes with a smaller battery compared to the Hi4-Z, resulting in a pure electric WLTC range of approximately 110 km.
Despite the shorter electric-only range, the Hi4-T maintains strong off-road ability, including an 800 mm wading depth and minor differences in ground clearance compared to the previous generation. The Hi4-T includes some shared premium features such as ventilated and heated rear seats, a refrigerator in the console, and infotainment options.
The updated Tank 500 will be equipped with GWM's third-generation driver assistance system, Coffee Pilot Ultra, and ATour X (Twitter) LiDAR provided by Hesai Group (NASDAQ: HSAI). The upgrades focus on vehicle intelligence, including smart driving and parking assistance.
No information about the sales figures or percentage contribution of the updated Tank 500 to GWM's monthly sales has been disclosed yet. However, the success of the Tank brand in July suggests a promising future for the updated Tank 500.
In additional news, GWM chairman Wei Jianjun teased a Ferrari-rivaling supercar, adding to the excitement surrounding the brand's future releases. Stay tuned for more updates!
