Hagerty's Festival of the Unexceptional Returns to Celebrate Basic Cars

The Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional (FOTU) is back, celebrating the humble brilliance of basic ford cars at Grimsthorpe Castle in Lincolnshire, UK, on Saturday 26th July 2025. Tickets are now available, offering full access to potentially peak era unexceptional cars.

FOTU, now in its 11th year, has grown significantly, paying tribute to the majesty in the mundane. In 1970, luxuries like carpets, glove box lids, and passenger door mirrors were rare. By 1990, even base models like the Toyota Starlet GL boasted features like an interior fuel flap release and a stereo radio cassette. John Mayhead, editor of the Hagerty Price Guide, has explored this evolution, noting that by 2010, base model specs had almost matched current standards.

The influx of used Japanese imports in the 1990s raised expectations for base model cars, especially in New Zealand. Until then, extremely sparse specifications were common in the British market.

FOTU invites you to appreciate the exceptional in the unexceptional. With tickets now available, you can enjoy a day celebrating the brilliance of basic cars that have evolved over the decades.
