Hand-Free Headphones (3) Caused Strange Conversation with My Own Hand
The tech world is abuzz with the latest offering from Nothing, the Nothing Ear (3) earbuds. These earbuds boast several design improvements, including polished metal accents that shine through their transparent casing, adding a touch of elegance to their minimalistic design.
One of the standout features of the Nothing Ear (3) is its call quality. Users have reported clear audio during calls, with effective background noise reduction. This is thanks to the Super Mic integrated into the charging case, a dual-microphone system with ambient-filtering technology that focuses on the user's voice and cuts through surrounding noise up to 95 dB.
The earbuds also boast an IP54 rating, making them splash-proof and dust-resistant, perfect for those on-the-go moments.
Battery life is another strength of the Nothing Ear (3). A quick 10-minute USB-C charge provides up to 10 hours of playback. Each earbud is equipped with an upgraded 55-mAh battery, providing up to 5.5 hours of listening time with noise canceling on (or up to 10 hours with it off) and an additional 22 hours from the case.
The new driver in the Nothing Ear (3) has been designed to boost bass response by 4 to 6 dB and treble by up to 4 dB, resulting in a wider soundstage, cleaner highs, and rich mids.
The charging case of the Nothing Ear (3) is made from 100% recycled aluminium and undergoes 27 precision processes to achieve its sleek, minimalistic design. It offers features such as ultra-fast charging, wireless charging support, LED indicators, and a magnetic closure for secure storage.
The earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4 and support the SBS, AAC, and LDAC audio codecs. They also feature a multichannel AI environmental noise-cancellation system, trained on over 20 million hours of real-world audio, to isolate the user's voice and suppress wind noise. Each earbud is equipped with three directional microphones combined with a bone-conduction voice pickup unit for precise voice pickup.
When using the Super Mic in the charging case, callers reported that the user's voice sounded more natural and less digitized and robotic. The Super Mic can also be used to record notes or conversations and sync to Nothing's Essential Space feature for automatic transcription.
However, there is one issue with the new Nothing Ear (3) earbuds: the eartips. Users have reported that they may require tips from another set of earbuds for a good fit.
The Nothing Ear (3) earbuds are available for preorder now at $179 (£179) and come in white or black. Despite some minor issues, the Nothing Ear (3) offers significant improvements in audio quality, call clarity, and battery life, making it a compelling choice for tech enthusiasts and casual users alike.
