Hasbro Seeks Tariff-Free Toys amid Continued Sales of Magic: The Gathering Cards

Hasbro, the beloved gaming company, is riding the waves of the ongoing global trade situation under the Trump administration's tariffs pretty smoothly. In a recent investor call, CEO Chris Cocks emphasized Hasbro's strategic advantage in the current chaos. The company's digital games and domestically produced board games, like Wizards of the Coast and its iconic titles, Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, are hardly affected by the tariffs.

The Wizards of the Coast division, though, has low tariff exposure as its domestic supply resides вЂ✅states like Texas and North Carolina. International manufacturers are based in Kyoto, Japan and Europe, both currently exempt from the tariffs. The only Wizards imports from China are the D&D boxed sets, but even then, China remains a key manufacturing hub for the company.

However, the CEO acknowledged that Hasbro's been juggling more intricate logistics due to the tariffs. When it comes to advocacy, Hasbro stands alongside The Toy Association, calling for global zero tariffs on toys and games to ensure a more predictable and favorable U.S. trade policy environment.

The CEO further elaborated that tariffs can lead to higher consumer prices, potential job losses, and reduced profits for shareholders. But for now, Hasbro is confident, with strong games and licensing businesses, and strategic flexibility, ensuring their guidance remains unscathed.

The Magic card game, in particular, has been thriving, boosting the division's Q1 revenue by 46% during the first quarter of 2025-2026. The game's "continued strength in licensing," including an upcoming crossover with Final Fantasy and the Universes Beyond set, which releases on June 13 and is already the best-selling Magic set ever, has contributed to such growth.
