Hyundai Ioniq 5 US Production Begins, Launch Edition Triples Demand
Hyundai has started production of the Ioniq 5 in the US, with the first cars rolling off the line at the Metaplant America facility in Ellabell, Georgia on October 3, 2024. The electric vehicle (EV) has received overwhelming interest, with launch editions being three times over-subscribed in the first 24 hours and over 235,000 enquiries across the UK and Europe.
The Ioniq 5 boasts impressive specifications, offering battery pack options of 58kWh and 72.6kWh, along with 2WD or 4WD drivetrain choices. Power output can reach up to 297bhp and 446lb/ft of torque. With these configurations, the Ioniq 5 is projected to have a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.
The Project 45 Ioniq 5 launch edition is priced at £48,000 before the Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG). Despite the high-end price tag, the demand has been extraordinary, indicating the public's enthusiasm for this new EV. Lower-spec models are expected to be more affordable, catering to a wider range of customers.
