iAmi's Twitter profile announces the acceleration of the YU7 SUV launch, moving it from July to the end of June
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, a key player in the country's electric vehicle (EV) market this year, is set to launch its new YU7 SUV at the end of June. The YU7, with a starting price not exceeding RMB 20,000 more than the SU7 electric sedan, has already generated significant interest, as evidenced by the number of pre-order inquiries exceeding the SU7's performance during the same period.
The YU7 display models have become available at 317 Xiaomi EV stores across 86 cities, providing potential buyers with a first-hand look at the new SUV. The broader audience for the YU7, as indicated by Xiaomi president Lu Weibing, suggests a promising market reception.
Deutsche Bank predicts that Xiaomi will deliver 100,000 YU7 SUVs in 2025, contributing to the company's total EV deliveries for the year, which are projected to reach around 400,000 units, with 280,000 SU7 sedans and 100,000 YU7 SUVs specifically.
However, the strong demand for the YU7 has put Xiaomi in a challenging position, as the company faces significant production ramp-up issues. As a result, new YU7 orders placed after June 2025 may face delivery wait times of up to 49-60 weeks. Despite these challenges, the high number of non-refundable orders within the first 18 hours of launch indicates robust market interest in the model.
In addition to the YU7, Xiaomi is also set to launch the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro and a second tablet featuring its in-house developed O1 chip at the same event. The SU7, Xiaomi's first EV model, was launched on March 28, 2024, with a starting price of RMB 215,900. The official pricing for the YU7 will be finalized 1-2 days before the launch, as previously stated.
Xiaomi's EV business is expected to turn profitable in the second half of 2025, according to Lei. The YU7's launch and subsequent deliveries will be crucial in achieving this milestone and further solidifying Xiaomi's position in the EV market.
