Iconic Peugeot E-208 GTi Reemerges on Scene, Reviving Compact Performance Car Enthusiasm
Sizzling Revival: Peugeot E-208 GTi Returns, Packing More Power and Less Emissions
The beloved Peugeot 205 GTi, a cult classic hot hatch, has a devoted fanbase among petrolheads. Now, it's back with a bang, sporting more power, yet less emissions and emotion. Before the 2027 model change, the French automaker is sending off the compact car model 208 with a GTi version based on the electric 208.
In its final years, the 2019-introduced Peugeot 208 is nearing the end of its lifecycle. To make a memorable last statement, Peugeot is reviving the GTi badge, a tradition that dates back over 12 years in the 80s and 90s when the 205 GTi was a crowd-pleaser. The latest GTi, following the first generation which was available between 2013 and 2018, promises to deliver an exhilarating drive.
Revamped Powerhouse - The Electric Peugeot E-208 GTiUnlike its 205 predecessor, which was exclusive to three doors, the new 208 GTi comes as a practical five-door. The exterior maintains its sporty heritage, boasting modified features. The front and rear tracks expand by 6 cm and 3 cm, respectively, and the body sits 3 cm lower. Sleek 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and large front brake discs (355 mm) are indicative of its athletic ambition. At the rear, the GTi sports a black diffuser hosting an integrated LED rear fog light, providing a striking contrast to the otherwise bold red body.
Tech Specs and Leasing DealsTechnically, the E-208 GTi is a sibling to the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima from the same Stellantis group. The Peugeot variant offers 280 PS and 345 Nm of torque, powered to the front wheels with the help of a limited-slip differential. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 5.7 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 180 km/h.
Car Enthusiasts, Unite! The interior exudes a GTi-typical atmosphere, replete with red accents, a flat-bottomed steering wheel flaunting the GTi logo and Alcantara trim, and sports seats adorned with a perforated leather and Alcantara combo. Boasting ergonomic side bolsters, Peugeot guarantees everyday comfort. The battery is identical to the standard model, but due to its performance, the range drops to roughly 350 km. As for the price, Peugeot hasn't disclosed official figures yet, but the related Abarth is currently priced around €49,000. The E-208 GTi, due later this year, will likely be lighter on equipment and the wallet.
