In spite of safeguarding historical landmarks, Amberg's Bruckmüller Brewery proceeds to utilize natural sunlight for its beer cooling process.

The Bruckmüller Brewery, with a history dating back to 1490, has announced significant advancements in its sustainability efforts. The Bavarian brewery has recently installed a new cooling system and completed its first solar power plant.

## Energy Efficiency Improvements

The heart of the new cooling system is a brine cooling system with a capacity of 45 megawatts, which replaced the previous ammonia-based system. This innovative system incorporates advanced refrigeration technology, high-efficiency compressors, and optimized heat exchange processes, significantly reducing the electricity required for maintaining optimal brewing temperatures.

Waste heat generated during refrigeration is captured and repurposed elsewhere in the brewery, such as for heating water or maintaining other process temperatures, further reducing the need for additional fuel or electricity. Variable speed drives have also been integrated into the cooling system, allowing compressors and pumps to adjust their output based on real-time cooling demand, minimizing energy waste during periods of lower load.

## Contribution to Sustainability Efforts

The energy-efficient cooling system is expected to reduce the brewery's energy consumption by 1803 megawatt hours per year, contributing to a lower carbon footprint. The reduction in electricity consumption, often generated from fossil fuels, directly supports climate change mitigation efforts.

Moreover, the system's improved efficiency leads to water conservation, as less water is needed for traditional cooling towers or open-loop water systems. This conservation of a vital resource aligns with the brewery's commitment to sustainable practices.

By meeting or exceeding local environmental regulations and sustainability certifications, the brewery enhances its reputation as an eco-friendly producer. The new system also supports the overall sustainability of the production process, aligning with consumer demand for environmentally responsible products.

## Solar Power Plant

In addition to the new cooling system, the Bruckmüller Brewery has completed its first solar power plant. This renewable energy source will further reduce the brewery's reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to its sustainability goals.

The Bruckmüller Brewery's innovative strategies demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibility and cost-effectiveness, setting a positive example for the brewing industry and beyond.

Other advancements in the Bruckmüller Brewery's sustainability efforts include the implementation of an environmental-science approach in the design and operation of their recently completed solar power plant, which produces clean energy to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. Furthermore, the integration of this solar power plant, along with the brine cooling system that optimizes temperature control using climate-change measures, technology, and water conservation techniques, will further bolster the brewery's commitment to sustainable practices and technology innovation in the industry.
