In the recent Microsoft Insider build, the classic Paint app now supports saving projects as layered files, as part of Microsoft's ongoing mission to enhance the default image editor's functionality and restore its former glory.

Microsoft's beloved Paint app is experiencing a resurgence, with the addition of a series of modern features that are bringing the program into the 21st century.

The updates, announced by Microsoft Principal Group Product Manager Lead, Dave Grochocki, include the introduction of layered project file support, allowing users to save and resume editable Paint projects similar to popular graphic design software like Photoshop. The new file format for these layered projects is named .paint.

This new feature is a game-changer for Paint, as it allows users to save their work and pick up where they left off, much like they can with more advanced graphic design tools.

In addition to layered project saving, Microsoft is also improving the Pencil and Brush tools in Paint. The company is adding an opacity slider, which will give users more control over the transparency of their brush strokes.

But it's not just Microsoft making waves in the world of gaming mice. Logitech has been dominating the market with several top-performing models. The Logitech G502 X is the best wired gaming mouse, while the Logitech G Pro is the best ambidextrous gaming mouse. For those on a budget, the Logitech G305 Lightspeed offers a great wireless option, and the Glorious Model O Eternal is another budget-friendly wired mouse worth considering.

For those who prefer MMO gaming, the Razer Naga Pro is the best MMO gaming mouse, while the Razer Cobra Pro offers a compact design for those with smaller hands. The Keychron M5 is the best ergonomic gaming mouse, and the Turtle Beach Burst II Air is the best lightweight gaming mouse.

As Paint continues to evolve, it's clear that it remains a valuable tool for both casual and professional users. With its ability to break images down into individual parts better than ever, and its growing list of modern features, Paint is poised to remain a staple in the world of graphic design for years to come.
