Indiegogo Acquired by Gamefound, Notable Crowdfunding Pioneer
Gamefound, a prominent tabletop crowdfunding platform, has made a significant move in the industry by acquiring Indiegogo, a long-established crowdfunding site with 17 years of experience and nearly 38 million members. This strategic partnership is set to revolutionise the crowdfunding landscape, bringing numerous benefits for both backers and creators.
Julie dePontbriand, CEO of Indiegogo, expressed her enthusiasm, believing that the acquisition will make crowdfunding more innovative, creator-friendly, and exciting. She emphasised the platform's focus on delivering an intuitive, professional, and reliable experience for backers, while ensuring that creators have the tools they need to thrive.
The acquisition is expected to bring about significant improvements. For instance, creators and backers will gain access to over 20 payment options, a full-featured mobile app, built-in marketing tools, multilingual support, and industry-leading pledge management. Additionally, the platform will adopt a flat 5% fee structure, making it more affordable for creators and enabling them to keep more of their funds.
One of the key advantages of the integration is increased exposure and discoverability. Gamefound tabletop campaigns will now be accessible through Indiegogo's vast and diverse community, broadening the reach for creators. Furthermore, backers will enjoy a streamlined user experience, with the ability to log in using either platform's credentials, making navigation across both platforms easier and more unified.
Marcin Świerkot, CEO of Gamefound, expressed pride in his team's focus and discipline, and their ability to ship new features every two weeks. He highlighted that Gamefound will continue to specialise in tabletop games, while Indiegogo supports tech, film, design, and other creative projects, ensuring that creators in multiple domains continue to receive the support they need without losing platform focus.
This acquisition represents a major step towards a more user-friendly, innovative, and competitive crowdfunding ecosystem. By combining Indiegogo's wide reach and history in crowdfunding with Gamefound's state-of-the-art infrastructure and focus on user experience, the partnership aims to challenge Kickstarter's dominance and provide backers and creators with a more robust, seamless, and enjoyable crowdfunding experience.
