Ola Electric Unveils Futuristic DiamondHead Electric Motorcycle and Gen 3 Initiative

In a groundbreaking move, Ola Electric, the Indian electric mobility company, has announced the development of its latest electric motorcycle, the DiamondHead, and its Gen 3 initiative that includes indigenous Bharat Cell and AI-enabled MoveOS software for electric vehicles.

Bhavish Aggarwal, the founder-CEO of Ola Electric, stated that the company's vision is to be the number one electric vehicle company in the world. He emphasized that the theme of Ola Electric is "India Inside" and that the company aims to build the best in India.

The DiamondHead electric motorcycle, expected to launch in 2027, is set to be a high-performance electric sports motorcycle. Priced around ₹5 lakh, it will compete with bikes like the Ultraviolette F77 and others. The motorcycle boasts a futuristic design, with a diamond-shaped front fairing, continuous LED headlight strip, aerodynamic body panels, clip-on handlebars, and a single-piece seat.

The motorcycle's performance is impressive, with a motor power around 16 kW (21.5 hp) and torque approximately 71 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-40 km/h in about 2 seconds and has a top speed expected between 150-170 km/h. The range is expected to offer over 150 km per charge, with some optimistic estimates up to 300 km.

The DiamondHead is equipped with a hub-center steering system for enhanced stability and handling, a belt drive instead of conventional chain drive for smoother operation, lateral front suspension, monoshock rear suspension, dual front disc brakes, single rear disc, ABS, and 17-inch wheels. The instrumentation features a fully digital cluster with multiple ride modes and advanced features.

In addition to the DiamondHead, Ola Electric has also developed the Bharat Cell 4680 at its Krishnagiri factory. This new cell offers faster recharge, better safety features, and a lower cost to produce. The development of the Bharat Cell 4680 and Ferrite Motor technology will be part of Ola Electric's Gen 3 initiative.

Under this initiative, Ola Electric plans to use the Bharat cell range across all its products gradually. The new software, MoveOS6, will be available to existing and new customers from January 2026. The software can provide suggestions to improve battery life, offer a voice assistant feature, and provide collision alert, blind spot detection, and multi-language support.

Ola Electric has also commenced development of Ferrite motor technology to replace the use of rare earth magnets in its products. Vehicles equipped with the new Ferrite Motor technology will be rolled out in the third quarter of the current financial year, according to Bhavish Aggarwal. The use of rare earth magnets will be avoided in vehicles developed by Ola Electric.

In conclusion, Ola Electric is making significant strides in the electric vehicle industry, with the DiamondHead electric motorcycle set to be a game-changer in the premium electric sports motorcycle segment. The company's focus on indigenous technology development, such as the Bharat Cell 4680 and Ferrite Motor technology, positions it well for the future of electric mobility in India and beyond.
