Jonathan Winbush: Award-Winning Motion Graphics Artist

Jonathan Winbush, a renowned motion graphics artist, hails from Pittsburgh, PA. His career in the industry took off when he landed an internship at Framework, a subsidiary of Happy Madison Studios, founded by Adam Sandler [1].

Winbush's early days in the industry were marked by a transition from 3D Max to C4D, as all artists at the time were using the latter for their projects. This shift in tools marked the beginning of his successful journey in motion graphics.

Winbush's work is characterised by his frequent use of Sapphire's Fog, Light leak, Camera Shake, Chromatic Aberration, and RackDefocus, as well as his go-to Boris FX plugins, Sapphire, Continuum, and Optics.

When embarking on a big project, Winbush often finds it helpful to go for a hike or walk, drawing inspiration from the serene beauty of the outdoors. His creative process is one of calmness and understanding, where he carefully listens to the client's needs and sketches out an approach for each project.

His first major film credit was on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Today, he dreams of collaborating with the team working on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.

When faced with creative burnout, Winbush steps away and engages in other activities, such as playing video games with his children. He also recently started juicing again with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Winbush's educational background includes a B.A. in Science for Visual Effects and Motion Graphics from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He finds inspiration for his work by hiking out in the canyons and appreciates a good movie like The Platform, which is available on Netflix.

To his younger self, Winbush would offer the advice to keep pushing forward, as the long nights and days will be worth it in the end.
