The Faraday Future FX Super One, recently unveiled in the US, is an intriguing AI MPV that shares its roots with the Wey Gaoshan 9 minivan from Great Wall Motor in China. Faraday Future has imported the vehicle as a Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) kit and will assemble it in California to avoid US tariffs.

While the FX Super One shares a close relation with the Gaoshan 9, it does have some differences and upgrades. For instance, the wheelbase of the FX Super One is slightly longer, measuring approximately 2.8 cm or 1.1 inches longer than the Wey Gaoshan 9, possibly due to slight rounding or minor modifications.

Faraday Future has made additional visual and technological enhancements to differentiate the FX Super One from its Gaoshan 9 base. The most notable change is the replacement of the traditional front grille with a large LED screen from LeEco, referred to as the Super EAI F.A.C.E. (Front AI Communication Ecosystem).

In terms of powertrains, the FX Super One offers two options similar to the Gaoshan 9: a fully electric version and a range-extended hybrid variant that combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with dual electric motors, producing a total of 452 horsepower and AWD capability. The battery pack is a 51.55 kWh unit from CATL, enabling about 125 miles of all-electric range before the gasoline engine assists.

The FX Super One is scheduled to start deliveries by the end of the year. However, the price of the FX Super One has not been released yet, while the Wey Gaoshan 9 starts at 353,800 yuan (49,360 USD) in China.

It's worth noting that Jia Yueting, the founder of Faraday Future, is also the founder of LeEco, a company that became a conglomerate with various divisions focused on smartphone manufacturing, smart TVs, and other consumer electronics.

In China, carmakers such as BYD, Geely, and 14 other carmakers and regulators are boosting car buying transparency via a centralized digital platform. This move aims to provide more information to consumers and improve the overall car buying experience.

In the same market, Great Wall Motor has debuted a new Tank 500 plug-in hybrid off-road SUV, with pre-sales starting in August.
