Kazakhstan's Water-Saving Tech Surges 86% in Two Years

Kazakhstan, a vast nation with limited water resources, has seen a significant boost in water-saving technologies due to state support. The area utilizing these technologies has surged by 86% in just two years.

The growth can be attributed to several factors. In 2024, four domestic factories for producing drip irrigation equipment were opened, marking a significant step in modernizing the country's agriculture. These factories, along with several others producing plastic pipes for drip irrigation systems, have been instrumental in improving water efficiency.

The Kazakh government has also played a crucial role. Since 2024, farmers have been receiving substantial subsidies for water-saving systems and irrigation water. The share of farmer costs covered has increased from 50% to 80%, making these technologies more accessible. This support has led to an increase in the area using water-saving technologies from 312,200 hectares in 2023 to approximately 581,000 hectares in 2025.

The expansion of water-saving technologies in Kazakhstan is a testament to the government's commitment to sustainable agriculture. With continued support and investment, particularly in the production and adoption of drip irrigation systems, the country aims to optimize its water resources and enhance agricultural productivity.
