Houston's KTRK-TV Upgrades Studio Lighting with Brightline Fixtures

Houston's long-standing broadcaster, KTRK-TV, has recently undergone a significant upgrade in its studio lighting system. The station, which has a 70-year history and is known for its community outreach and investigative journalism, has partnered with Brightline for this transformation.

KTRK-TV has purchased a variety of Brightline fixtures, including 37 Brightline L1.2 variable white fixtures, eight L1.4 fixtures, and five Brightline Lupo Fresnels. These new fixtures were installed in June and now light Studio B. In addition, two Brightline L1.2X variable white fixtures with DMX control and seventeen L1.4 fixtures with DMX control were also added to the studio last month.

The lighting upgrade in Studio B began with the installation of fixture mounted intensifiers at the front light and wide control screens at the back light. This marks the start of a complete upgrade that includes plans for an interview set and possibly a talent stand-up area. KTRK-TV is eager to expand its chromakey capability for virtual set production.

Kathy Katz, managing partner of Brightline, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that KTRK has been a long-term partner with their company. She also emphasised that KTRK understands the transformative power of high-quality broadcast lighting.

Chris Boyd, the lighting designer/director, installed the fixtures, while Rob Kreps with Barbizon Lighting Company programmed the DMX console. The installation of an ETC Element console in Studio B last month further enhances the studio's lighting capabilities.

Despite a lack of publicly documented or reported recent lighting upgrade details for Studio B at KTRK-TV, it is clear that the station has made significant strides in improving its studio lighting. For the latest and most detailed information, contacting KTRK-TV directly or consulting industry-specific trade publications or press releases related to broadcast technology upgrades might be necessary.

Brightline and KTRK have had a close working relationship for several years, with a positive outlook for the future. This lighting upgrade is just one example of KTRK's commitment to providing top-quality broadcasting to the Houston community.
