Running Your Own Community Node: A Simple Guide to Becoming a Validator

Celebrating a month since our mainnet launch, we're thrilled to announce that community-run validator nodes are now live! Here's a straightforward guide to get you started on running your own node today.

Hardware and Staking Requirements

To ensure your node runs smoothly, we recommend the following specifications:

Hardware Specs by Hosting Method

Self-hosting

  • 250 GB SSD storage
  • Quad core CPU less than 10 years old
  • 16 GB of RAM, 4+ GB of virtual memory recommended

VPS Hosting

  • 250 GB SSD storage
  • Dual core CPU works if hosted with newer Xeons / EPYC
  • Hosting: 8 GB RAM + 8 GB Virtual Memory

One Click Setup

  • No hardware setup needed

Staking Requirement

  • 2400 SHM for all types of hosting (subject to periodic adjustments)

Easy Node Setup

In just three simple steps, you can install, stake, and get your node up and running:

  1. Get an EVM-compatible wallet such as Bitget Wallet, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, OKX, etc. They are available as browser extensions, web apps, and mobile apps.
  2. Have a minimum of 2,400 SHM tokens. Purchase SHM from various exchanges listed here and transfer it to your wallet.
  3. Follow our comprehensive beginner-friendly guide to install, stake, and operate your validator node, earning rewards in return!

The Perks of Running a Validator Node

Becoming a validator offers multiple advantages:

  1. ** Lucrative Rewards**: Enjoy 10 SHM/Hour when your node is actively contributing to the network (subject to adjustments).
  2. ** Easy to Get Started**: Minimal hardware requirements and a user-friendly interface makes it simple for anyone, from beginners to seasoned users, to participate.
  3. ** Decentralization boost**: Each new node adds to the network's resilience, contributing to its uncensorable and inclusive nature, truly owned by the users.
  4. ** Contribute to Web3**: Run your node on our low-fee network to help make decentralization more accessible than ever, setting a standard for scalable Web3 infrastructure.
  5. ** Flexible Hosting**: Choose how you want to host your node, whether you prefer self-hosting, VPS hosting, or opting for our easy one-click setup.

FAQ

Will the community run all validator nodes?

As we prioritize network security and stability, validator access will gradually expand. As transaction volume and user activity grow, additional slots will be opened to the community, nurturing global participation in securing and decentralizing our network.

Why are rewards only given for active validation, not standby nodes?

Although crucial for network resilience and scalability, standby nodes do not directly participate in the consensus process or transaction validation. Rewarding them without active involvement could create imbalances in the reward system. As our ecosystem matures, standby nodes will have plenty of opportunities to contribute and earn rewards. Get involved now to gain experience and accumulate SHM over time!

Data-and-cloud-computing technology plays a crucial role in running a Community Node, as validators can opt for VPS Hosting or One Click Setup, both of which require access to reliable hosting services. Running a Validator Node not only offers lucrative rewards but also contributes to the decentralization and scalability of Web3.
