LG's AI Innovations in Smart Homes, Software-Controlled Vehicles, Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, and Autonomous Cars

In a bold move to surpass industry benchmarks for AI implementation, known as Responsible Intelligence, LG has joined forces with Magna to revolutionise the automotive industry. This collaboration aims to deliver unique user experiences within vehicle cabins, marking a significant step towards transforming cars into 'living spaces on wheels'.

The partnership has successfully integrated a cross-domain cockpit computing system into a single System on Chip (SoC). This integration paves the way for a seamless fusion of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Automated Driving (AD), and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) technologies.

At the heart of this innovation lies a cross-domain platform, designed to ensure customers maintain full control over AI decisions. LG's commitment to ethical AI use and data security is evident in its focus on benefiting all users, promoting safe behaviour, and ensuring data security.

The data security system, LG Shield, protects personal data at every stage of the process, providing a secure foundation for the new platform. The solution can be customised to meet any OEM's integrated communications and IVI system needs, with a planned debut in the 2027 model year.

LG's vision extends beyond vehicles, as it transforms into a smart life solution company. The company is incorporating 'Affectionate Intelligence' technology into the ThinQ platform, providing compelling, new experiences and more intuitive interactions via a dedicated Human Machine Interface (HMI).

The integration of functionalities into a single module enables the real-time sharing of rich data across domains. This integration supports multiple IVI systems and ADAS/AD domain integration, and can handle various Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) requirements while using fewer electronic control units and taking up less packaging space.

In addition to its automotive endeavours, LG unveiled new AI-based smart home services such as 'ChatThinQ' and '3D Home View', and plans to launch a new smart home hub. The company also introduced LG AlphaWare, a suite of software solutions for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV), including versatile software modules, operation solutions, in-cabin entertainment solutions, and human-machine interface solutions.

While specific OEMs involved in private demonstrations of the new platform at CES 2024 were not explicitly named in the available news, LG's commitment to innovation and its focus on creating a safer, more intelligent, and more personalised driving experience is clear.
