LS Energy Solutions Launches Big Rock, 200 MW/400 MWh Storage Project in California

LS Energy Solutions has initiated commercial operations at the Big Rock energy storage project in Imperial County, California. This marks a significant addition to Gore Street Fund's operational portfolio, which now stands at 753.4 MW / 924.1 MWh of energy storage assets across Texas, Ireland, Great Britain, Germany, and now California.

The Big Rock project, developed and operated in partnership with Gore Street Energy Storage Fund, consists of 137 containerized battery energy storage systems, each designed for two-hour durations. LS Energy Solutions, known for its LS-ES AiON-ESS modular lithium-ion batteries, offers these systems in two-hour and four-hour designs, with power ratings ranging from 400 kW to 1.3 MW.

The 200 MW / 400 MWh project is providing crucial resource adequacy services for the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) electrical grid. It has secured a 12-year resource adequacy contract with the grid operator. This project is LS Energy Solutions' latest achievement, having previously deployed over 1 GW of storage across 250 projects. Notably, Gore Street Energy Storage Fund acquired the Big Rock site in February 2023 from clean energy developer Avantus, marking its first project for CAISO.

The commencement of commercial operations at the Big Rock energy storage project underscores the growing demand for reliable energy storage solutions in California. With a 12-year contract, this project is set to significantly contribute to the state's grid stability and clean energy transition. Both LS Energy Solutions and Gore Street Energy Storage Fund are poised to benefit from this strategic investment.
