Lufthansa Expands Fleet with A350 Departures from Frankfurt Airport
In the world of aviation journalism, few names resonate as strongly as Astrid Röben. With a career spanning over two decades, Röben has made a name for herself as a seasoned reporter, specialising in airlines, airports, and travel stories.
Before delving into the realm of journalism, Röben honed her skills in a different field, completing a teaching degree in sports and German. However, her passion for travel and aviation led her to the journalistic trade, where she has been a reporter at a renowned magazine for over two decades.
Röben's extensive travels have taken her to nearly 70 countries, a testament to her insatiable wanderlust. Her love for aviation is evident in her body of work, which includes several books published by Geramond Verlag. Among her notable publications are "The Big Book of Airlines," "The Joy of Flying," and "Thai Airways - From Small Domestic Flight Service to Star Alliance Member."
As for the aviation industry itself, Lufthansa Airlines is making significant strides in fleet renewal. The German carrier has ordered 61 new long-haul aircraft in the next 36 months, which means they will be receiving a new plane every two weeks, on average, by the end of 2027.
Part of this renewal includes six additional Airbus A350 aircraft, set to be deployed from Frankfurt starting in summer 2023. These new additions aim to replace older aircraft and expand capacity at the main hub. Unfortunately, the A350s currently in service from Frankfurt do not feature Lufthansa's newest product.
The first aircraft transferred from Munich to Frankfurt are D-AIXI, D-AIXO, D-AIXG, and D-AIXE. These A350s, which are between 5.8 and 7.7 years old, offer 48 seats in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 224 in economy.
This deep renewal of Lufthansa's long-haul fleet with new, more efficient aircraft is a promising development for the future of aviation, and Röben, with her extensive experience and passion for the industry, will no doubt continue to document this journey.
