Magewell announces significant enhancement for Director Mini product line

Magewell, a leading provider of video-over-IP solutions, has unveiled the upcoming release of version 3.0 for their Director Mini all-in-one production and streaming system. Scheduled for release within the next 30 days, this update promises over 50 enhancements, with a focus on advanced Wide Area Network (WAN) functionality improvements.

Nick Ma, CEO and CTO of Magewell, has stated that version 3.0 includes powerful new features that add value for customers. The update aims to make the Director Mini more powerful, with enhancements to its production toolset, remote control capabilities, and input flexibility.

One of the significant changes in version 3.0 is the introduction of instant replay controls in the browser-based web UI. This update also expands the device's input flexibility with support for RTSP streams and HTML webpage sources.

The new version also focuses on improving existing capabilities and refining the user experience for greater ease and efficiency. For instance, numerous user interface refinements make working with scene layouts and graphics quicker and more precise.

Director Mini's graphics capabilities have been expanded with the ability to create animated titles and lower thirds. Version 3.0 can also utilise NDI High Bandwidth sources with alpha channel as motion overlays in its graphics engine.

Remote control options have been extended, allowing producers and assistants to control more aspects from mobile devices and laptops. The free Director Utility mobile app now includes live program video and audio monitoring, multi-step shortcut creation and editing, instant replay control, and replay event sharing.

The Director Mini's versatility is further demonstrated with the addition of new scene presets, including picture-in-picture, side-by-side, quad-splits, and more. The device now supports captive portal authentication in shared Wi-Fi environments and USB tethering to use a smartphone's cellular data connectivity.

Moreover, Director Mini's built-in scoreboard engine offers four new football (soccer) templates, including stoppage time and player substitution. The new firmware update will be available as a free firmware update for all Director Mini users.

Previous reviews have praised the Director Mini for packing a huge array of features into its small, portable form factor, making it an essential tool for live broadcasting. With the release of version 3.0, Magewell continues to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with a compact, all-in-one production and streaming system.
