Melbourne Instruments' Roto-Control device now compatible with Bitwig Studio due to 2.0 firmware update integration
Roto-Control MIDI Controller Gets Major 2.0 Update
Melbourne Instruments has announced a significant firmware update for their Roto-Control MIDI controller, addressing community demand and expanding its compatibility with DAWs and features.
In the update, Roto-Control now offers full integration with Bitwig Studio, syncing automatically with the mixer and displaying track names, colors, and group tracks live from the session. This level of integration mirrors the controller's prior Ableton Live integration.
One of the key additions is the ability to send MIDI notes and program changes using the controller’s eight mechanical keyboard-style buttons, including bank select functionality.
The update also introduces manual mapping and customization of racks and macros for Ableton Live, remote page navigation in PLUGIN Mode for Bitwig Studio, and Linux support specifically for Bitwig Studio, enabling broader OS compatibility for users on Linux.
In PLUGIN Mode, Roto-Control's plugin parameters and labels are lifted directly from the DAW and stored locally on the device, offering a seamless workflow. Custom mappings in PLUGIN Mode will be instantly recalled when opening plugins across any Bitwig project.
In MIX Mode, Roto-Control's controls now support track grouping, a feature requested by many users. Moreover, track names and colors from a Bitwig project will now appear on ROTO-Control's displays, updating automatically in response to any changes in the session.
The Roto-Control Setup App has been updated to support both Ableton Live and Bitwig Studio. Additionally, the update includes a center indent haptic feedback option for knobs in MIDI Mode, adding tactile precision.
If you don't use Ableton Live or Bitwig Studio, you can still control your DAW with Roto-Control using its MIDI Mode. The controller, introduced at NAMM 2025, is equipped with eight motorized knobs, first seen on the company's NINA synth.
The 2.0 update for Roto-Control brings with it a host of improvements, reinforcing its position as a versatile motorized MIDI controller for modern DAW setups. For more information and to download the update, visit Melbourne Instruments' website.
