Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced the partnership in a joint statement Thursday. The collaboration aims to capitalize on Meta's decade-long investment in AI and AR technologies.
"We are honored to associate with Anduril to provide these technologies to American soldiers who protect our interests at home and abroad," said Zuckerberg. Unlike Virtual Reality (VR), AR applications will enhance the real world with digital components, allowing soldiers to process and act on data more efficiently.
Anduril's founder, Palmer Luckey, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. "I'm thrilled to collaborate with Meta once again. This partnership is particularly exciting as it has the potential to make a significant difference for America in numerous defense sectors," Luckey stated.
The collaboration plans to integrate AR and AI with Anduril's Lattice platform, likely in the form of helmets or visors. Lattice is described as an AI-assisted command and control system that provides real-time battlefield information for decision-making.
Luckey explained in a podcast that the goal is to minimize combat casualties and training fatalities by providing the most effective virtual reality simulators. Luckey co-founded Oculus, a virtual reality company that was acquired by Facebook in 2014.
