Microsoft Expands AI Capabilities, Expects 1.3 Billion AI Agents by 2028
Microsoft is expanding its AI capabilities, integrating Copilot tools into various tasks and expecting a significant increase in AI agent deployment by 2028. The company is investing heavily in data centres and AI model training, with AI already contributing to Azure cloud growth.
GitHub Copilot, a coding agent designed to handle routine programming tasks, is now integrated into coding workflows. It can fix bugs, add features, improve documentation, and run tests, working seamlessly within existing systems alongside the team.
Microsoft is not stopping at coding. It's integrating Copilot into CRM and Office tasks, with a new Microsoft 365 Agents Toolkit for Office apps. The company is also supporting multi-agent systems in Copilot Studio, allowing AI agents to interact and complete tasks together.
The interest in AI agents is growing. Around 230,000 organisations, including diverse enterprises like Pets at Home and ABN AMRO, are using Microsoft's Copilot Studio to build their own AI agents. Microsoft expects this number to reach 1.3 billion by 2028.
Microsoft's investment in AI, totalling around $80 billion, is set to transform how people work. With AI agents becoming central to tasks and contributing to Azure cloud growth, businesses are embracing this technology, with over 230,000 organisations already on board.
