MTN Zambia Partners with Starlink to Boost Internet Connectivity

MTN Zambia, a leading telecommunications company in the country, has announced a partnership with SpaceX's Starlink to bring high-speed satellite internet connectivity to Zambia. This collaboration aims to extend reliable internet access to rural and underserved areas where traditional telecom infrastructure is limited or absent [1].

Under the agreement, MTN Zambia will offer local customer support, installation services, and Starlink Business packages specifically designed for enterprises, NGOs, and government institutions. Customers can purchase and activate Starlink kits through selected MTN outlets or dedicated account managers [4].

Starlink operates low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, offering stable, fast internet with low latency. This technology promises to deliver improved voice and data connectivity even in locations without fiber or mobile network coverage [1].

The partnership between MTN Zambia and Starlink is part of Airtel Africa's broader collaboration with SpaceX to bring Starlink's high-speed satellite internet connectivity to various African countries, including Zambia. Airtel Africa’s extensive market presence facilitates delivering Starlink services to millions of customers, including businesses, schools, and hospitals [1].

Starlink is licensed to operate in Zambia and other African countries covered by Airtel Africa's network [1]. The collaboration targets regions with severe connectivity gaps, such as rural areas in Zambia, to ensure no one is left behind in the digital revolution.

While Airtel Africa is the main partner publicly announced for Starlink service delivery across Africa, MTN Zambia’s involvement is implied through ongoing tests and interest in satellite technologies in the region. This growing cooperation in technology access expansion within Zambia was evident at the recent Zambia Tech-Xpo 2025, where Starlink's retailer support was also showcased [2][5].

This partnership aligns with MTN's broader vision of delivering a modern connected life for everyone and supports Zambia's digital transformation agenda [6]. Abbad Reda, CEO of MTN Zambia, stated that the Starlink partnership showcases their dedication to bridging the digital divide in Zambia [7].
