New Arrival: Galaxy Z Fold 7 - Unveiling Excitement with These Prominent Features
As the summer heat simmers down, the smartphone industry gears up for the release of the new flagship devices. While the first half of the year was dominated by candybar phones like the OnePlus 13 and Galaxy S25 series, the second half is set to be dominated by updates to the best foldable phones.
Leading the charge is the Galaxy Z Fold 7, scheduled to launch soon. This year, Samsung is taking a different approach, teasing and confirming information ahead of the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The teasers have already confirmed that this year breaks the mold with Samsung ushering in a thinner and lighter era. Based on various leaks and Samsung's messaging, we have a good idea of what the Z Fold 7 will likely feature.
Two features in particular have got me excited for the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Thinner and lighter than ever
One of the main criticisms of Samsung's foldable phones over the past few years has been their thickness compared to the competition. Devices like the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo Find N5 have pushed the boundaries, and last year's Galaxy Z Fold 6 was over 3mm thicker when folded. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set to be the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet.
Even the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was already thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, will benefit from a much thinner phone. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to be 24 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, reducing the weight to 215 grams. This weight reduction, along with a thinner form factor, will give the Galaxy Z Fold 7 a significant edge over its competitors.
Ultra foldable experience
Samsung has made two significant announcements ahead of the Unpacked event, hinting at a new folding experience. Dubbed the 'Ultra foldable experience', this new feature is still shrouded in mystery, but it seems like it will bring bigger screens and better cameras to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This shift in focus to bigger screens and better cameras addresses two main complaints about the Galaxy Z Fold lineup to date.
In terms of screen size, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 falls behind its competitors, with smaller displays compared to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Oppo Find N5. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to have a larger screen, rumored to be 6.5-inches for the cover display and a main display of 8.12-inches, the largest main display to date. The additional screen real estate will significantly enhance the utility of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The cameras have also been a notable weakness in the Galaxy Z Fold series, especially compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to address this issue with a 200MP primary camera sensor, an upgrade over the 50MP primary camera used in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This upgrade, combined with a more refined design, makes the Galaxy Z Fold 7 the most exciting foldable phone for me in years.
If the rumors hold true, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is likely to be the best foldable phone you can buy. After years of being disappointed, the radical overhaul expected in the Z Fold 7, a long-overdue overhaul in my opinion, makes this the most exciting Galaxy Z Fold in years. I can't wait to see what Samsung has in store for us.

The forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, with its ambitious promise of a thinner and lighter form factor, will aim to surpass its predecessors and competitors in terms of portability. Weighing just 215 grams, the device is anticipated to be 24 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, offering a substantial improvement in weight reduction.
In addition to a sleeker design, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is also expected to deliver an enhanced user experience with the introduction of the 'Ultra foldable experience'. This enigmatic feature is slated to boost the screen size and camera capabilities of the device, addressing longstanding criticisms and putting it at the forefront of foldable technology.
