Nio hails the initiation of a 15-day European trial for the Firefly model, aiming to ready it for market debut.

The Nio Firefly sub-brand, a new entrant in the European electric vehicle market, is scheduled to commence sales in the second half of 2025. After successful registrations and public road tests in the Netherlands, Firefly is set to expand its presence across several European countries.

Nio, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, announced in June 2025 that the Netherlands and Norway would be the first European markets for Firefly sales. The company plans to roll out the vehicle in 13 additional countries, including Germany, Austria, Romania, Luxembourg, Sweden, Portugal, and Denmark, by 2026.

Firefly's European launch marks a significant milestone, following its successful debut in China in April 2025. The compact electric vehicle, designed at Nio's Munich studio, is positioned as a competitor to vehicles like the BMW Mini and Smart. The starting price in the Netherlands is around €29,900 (~$35,330).

To support the European rollout, Nio is shifting from direct-to-consumer sales to partnerships with national distributors. This strategy is expected to facilitate a smoother entry into various markets. For instance, Denmark will see the relaunch of Firefly with new showrooms planned for 2025–2026.

In addition to Firefly, Nio's European product lineup will include main Nio-brand models such as the EL6, EL8, ET5, and ET5 Touring. The emphasis will be on battery swap technology and subscription services for flexible ownership options.

Firefly has also been spotted road testing in Australia, though the official market entry there has not yet been confirmed. As of June 2025, Firefly's European sales volumes remain low, indicative of a phased market entry.

In May 2025, Nio delivered 3,680 vehicles, according to data released by the company. The right-hand drive version of Firefly, set to be ready by October at the latest, will be available in markets such as the UK and Southeast Asia.
