Nio to Showcase New ES8 model by End of This Month, Officially Launching at Nio Day 2025 in September
Nio, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced plans for its third-generation ES8 during a media briefing. The ES8, currently Nio's flagship SUV, may be replaced by the higher-end ES9 in the future.
The third-generation ES8 is a large, premium electric SUV that boasts a bold and sleek exterior design. It features split design daytime running lights, a redesigned front fascia with lower air intakes, dark tinted rear windows, and full-width rear taillights for a unified look. The vehicle is built on the advanced NT3.0 platform and offers significantly larger dimensions (5280 mm in length, 2010 mm in width, 1800 mm in height, and a 3130-3250 mm wheelbase) than its predecessors, resulting in a more spacious interior with six- or seven-seat configurations.
Key specifications include a 102 kWh battery pack weighing 545 kg that supports a driving range of up to 635 km. The ES8 also uses a 900V ultra-fast charging and battery swapping platform, capable of adding 250 km of range in just 5 minutes and performing a full battery swap in 3 minutes. The vehicle is equipped with the flagship Aquila Super Sensing System, which includes a roof-mounted long-range lidar sensor, dual side wide-angle lidars, and a 4D imaging radar to enhance intelligent driving capabilities.
Regarding pricing, it is expected to start around ¥528,000 (approximately $73,920), possibly featuring partial adoption of the SkyRide chassis technology.
Nio will unveil the third-generation ES8 later this month, during Nio Day 2025. The event, which has been moved from the usual end of the year to the fall, will see the launch of the luxury three-row flagship SUV. Preorders for the ES8 will open in late August 2025, with display vehicles available at stores after a product event in late August. Showrooms will open on August 21, and test drives will start on September 12. The official commercial launch with customer deliveries will begin in September 2025, shortly after the Nio Day event in late September. Deliveries will start in the Chinese market first before expanding to global markets, including the GCC region.
The ES8, as Nio's first mass-produced vehicle, holds a strategic position within the company. Li, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Nio, emphasized its importance. The second generation ES8 was launched on December 24, 2022, at Nio Day 2022, and the first generation ES8 was launched on December 16, 2017, at Nio Day 2017.
Interestingly, spy shots have revealed the third-generation ES8 undergoing road tests, hinting at its imminent launch. The ES8, focusing more on family use compared to the Onvo L90, will offer a wheelbase of 3,250 mm and come in six- and seven-seat configurations.
As Nio continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, the third-generation ES8 is set to be a game-changer in the premium electric SUV market. With its advanced features, sleek design, and impressive specifications, it promises to deliver an unparalleled driving experience.
