Nostalgic Computer Gathering in Hünfeld: "Awakening of Childhood Nostalgia"
The Vintage Computer Festival Europe (VCFe) made its way to Hünfeld, Germany, this weekend, marking the first time the event has been held in this historic city. Known as the Konrad-Zuse-city, Hünfeld welcomed technology enthusiasts from far and wide for a celebration of vintage computing.
The festival took place at the Kolpinghaus town hall and featured an exhibition of nostalgic computers, as well as specialist lectures on various topics related to computing history. Admission to the festival was free for all attendees both days.
Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok expressed his delight at the great interest shown at the opening of the event. He mentioned that Hünfeld is proud to be known as the Konrad-Zuse-city, a title it was given in 2006. Tschesnok also shared that he had the chance to relive a piece of his youth by sitting at a game console during the festival.
Professor Dr. Wolfgang Karl from the Konrad-Zuse-Society played a significant role in organising the VCFe in Hünfeld. Horst Zuse, son of computer inventor Konrad Zuse, also contributed to the event by establishing contact with Hans Franke from VCFe. Horst Zuse even gave a lecture about the life of his father and the origins of the computer.
In addition to exhibitors, there was a PolyPlay sales stand where rarities and accessories could be purchased. The festival was open from 10 am to 5 pm each day, and free guided tours were offered by the Konrad-Zuse-Museum at fixed times both days.
Looking ahead, Tschesnok expressed excitement for next year, when Hünfeld will celebrate 20 years as the Konrad-Zuse-city. For more detailed information on the 2021 edition’s program, lectures, and tours, we recommend consulting the official VCFe website or archives.
