The outdoor footwear industry is set for a refresh with Oboz's latest offering, the Katabatic LT, featuring GORE-TEX Invisible Fit technology. This innovative collaboration between Oboz and GORE engineers promises a lightweight, breathable, and waterproof shoe designed for speedy day hikes and fast, light overnight trips.
Priced at £150 for the low version and £170 for the mid-height Katabatic LT, the new collection is a reimagined version of one of Oboz's popular collections. The mid Katabatic LT adopts GORE-TEX Invisible Fit technology, ensuring true fit, feel, and comfort while keeping the user dry.
The Katabatic LT boasts several key features. The uppers of all models are made with abrasion-resistant and breathable 100% recycled polyester. The welded TPU around the toe cap and heel counter provides superior foot protection and stability. The shoe's midsole, the Oboz KINERTIATM Energy, is made with 15% Bio-based EVA for added comfort.
The Invisible Fit technology is a significant improvement over traditional 'bootie' constructions, being lighter, drying faster, and offering significantly improved breathability. It employs a PFAS-Free ePE membrane and carefully selected textiles with 70% recycled content.
The insole in the Katabatic LT collection features Ortholite ECO, made with 12% plant-derived bio-oil and 5% recycled rubber. This, combined with O FIT Insole® technology, offers a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit.
The Katabatic LT outsole offers durable traction with excellent grip on muddy, slippery, or dry rocky terrain, making it versatile for various trail conditions. The shoe has an 8 mm heel drop and weighs approximately 11.8 oz (335 grams) for men's sizes, ensuring lightness for fast-paced hiking and easy scrambling.
Environmentally, the shoe incorporates recycled materials, supporting sustainability goals. However, it's worth noting that it may wear down quicker on the outsole and is less stable on highly technical terrain, making it better suited for fast hiking than extreme technical use.
