Streamlined car registration in Neuwied county: Farewell to red tape and lengthy queues with i-Kfz system

Say goodbye to burdensome bureaucracy and endless waiting times! Neuwied county residents now have the advantage of easily registering, deregistering, and altering their vehicles online. There's no need to physically visit the registration office anymore, and extended waiting times are a thing of the past. In addition, online registration comes with financial perks as the costs are generally lower compared to traditional in-person registration.

Thanks to i-Kfz level 4, this digital convenience is now a reality in Rhineland-Palatinate after some delays. The Motor Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV), revised in September 2023, laid the legal foundation for online registration. A comprehensive update from i-Kfz level 3 to level 4, encompassing both state and federal levels, was necessary for the technical implementation. Alas, Rhineland-Palatinate saw additional delays due to increased IT security measures in response to numerous cyber attacks. Only recently could the new features be fully delivered.

County administrator, Achim Hallerbach, expressed understanding for the public's disappointment over the delayed introduction of i-Kfz level 4. He acknowledged that his team lacked control over a faster implementation. The high workload faced by the registration office staff was considerably alleviated by online registration, benefiting both sides in terms of time and cost savings.
