OpenAI Introduces Parental Controls Across Platforms, Including ChatGPT and Sora
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT and the Sora video app, is introducing parental controls across its platforms. This move follows a recent lawsuit involving a teenager and ChatGPT, aiming to provide better safeguards for young users.
The new features include default safeguards for linked accounts, such as filters for graphic content, viral challenges, and harmful ideologies. Parents can now link their accounts with their teens', gaining access to these enhanced safety measures.
Parental controls offer a range of customization options. Parents can set 'quiet hours' to limit app usage during specific times, disable voice mode for hands-free interaction, block image generation to prevent misuse, and ensure teens' conversations won't be used for model training. These controls extend to OpenAI's video app, Sora.
For Sora, parents can now limit endless scrolling by setting time or usage caps, block direct messages to prevent unwanted contact, and turn off personalized recommendations to maintain controlled content exposure.
OpenAI's new parental controls provide a robust layer of protection for young users. By offering customizable settings and extending these features to its video app, Sora, OpenAI demonstrates a commitment to user safety and responsible AI use. These changes follow a lawsuit involving a teenager and ChatGPT, highlighting the importance of proactive measures to safeguard minors in the digital age.
