Paderborn Fire Department's First Electric Truck Revolutionizes Operations
Paderborn fire department has taken a significant step towards sustainability by commissioning its first fully electric truck. This innovative vehicle, equipped with advanced safety features and a powerful battery-electric chassis, is set to revolutionise logistical support and emergency response operations.
The truck, a Volvo FH 62 ELECTRIC, boasts an impressive 540 kWh gross battery capacity, providing a range of approximately 350 km. It can carry up to 16 pallets or 15 roll containers, with various loading and unloading options to facilitate swift and efficient operations.
Equipped with a maximum total weight of 28,000 kg and a payload of 13,000 kg, the truck also ensures safety with features like side turn assist, a 360° camera system, and automatic lighting, supported by numerous driver assistance systems.
Funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport Affairs under the KsNI directive, the truck's acquisition cost approximately 300,000 euros. The financing was further supported by the 'Europäischer Fonds für regionale Entwicklung' (ERDF).
The fire department has wrapped the truck in its design and safety concept, making it instantly recognisable as part of the service. The vehicle is not only used for logistical support during operations but also serves as a driving school vehicle, promoting training and familiarisation with electric vehicles.
