Payments company Zimpler gains certification as a Payment Institution in Brazil

Zimpler, a Swedish company specializing in Pay-by-Bank solutions, has made a significant stride in expanding its operations to Brazil. The company has been certified as a Payment Institution (PI) in Brazil by the central bank, marking a milestone in its efforts to deepen partnerships and expand its footprint in the country.

This certification allows Zimpler to streamline the checkout process by enabling direct transactions without redirecting users to bank apps. It also authorizes Zimpler to act as an electronic money institution and facilitate payments, as well as other Open Finance ecosystem resources.

The move is expected to bring numerous benefits for businesses in Brazil. With Zimpler's Pay-by-Bank solutions, companies can now access instant bank payment services, improving payment efficiency and customer transaction speed. The integration with Brazil's evolving Open Finance framework can help businesses leverage enhanced data connectivity and financial services.

By connecting directly with Brazilian customers’ bank accounts, companies can facilitate seamless payments without traditional card or cash methods. This could potentially lower transaction costs and reduce fraud through real-time bank authentication. Moreover, businesses in regulated industries can gain easier access to local payment systems through Zimpler’s certification and compliance.

Johan Strand, chief executive officer of Zimpler, stated that the authorization reinforces their commitment to the Brazilian market. He is looking forward to helping businesses unlock the full potential of Open Finance in Brazil with seamless, secure payments that drive market growth.

Andreas Rentner, Trade Commissioner and country manager of Business Sweden in Brazil, commented that this milestone showcases the strength of Swedish innovation. This authorization is another step in strengthening Zimpler's foundation in Brazil, following its successful partnership with Swish, the Swedish equivalent of Pix, which revolutionized Sweden's financial ecosystem.

Zimpler's experience powers over 80% of Sweden's population through Swish, and its work with Swish has propelled it to become one of Europe's leading payments fintechs. With this expansion, Zimpler is now poised to connect businesses to over 350 million customer bank accounts in 25 markets globally, including Brazil.

The Brazilian Open Finance ecosystem, with its 64 million active consents and 42 million clients, has been strengthened by Zimpler's certification. This certification marks a significant step in the closer economic collaboration between Sweden and Brazil. As Zimpler opens its São Paulo office in 2022, it is set to revolutionize Brazil's financial landscape and contribute to the growth of the country's digital payment infrastructure.
