The tech world is abuzz with rumors about Google's upcoming device, the Pixel Watch 4. This latest iteration promises to bring significant changes, particularly in its charging system, as well as some expected updates to design and functionality.

A Revolutionary Charging System

The most noticeable change in the Pixel Watch 4 is its charging system. Unlike its predecessors, which featured rear pogo pins, the Pixel Watch 4 introduces a significant change by shifting to a side-mounted PIN contact charging system. This new design uses conductive metal contacts located on the left side of the watch, opposite the crown.

This setup enables 25% faster charging speeds and supports a bedside clock mode for users who don't wear the watch to bed. The watch can charge while resting in a wireless charging stand on its side, displaying the time, battery status, and alarms, similar to an Apple Watch charging dock.

Design Updates for Durability and Functionality

Besides the new charging system, the Pixel Watch 4’s design includes several expected changes. For instance, the watch is likely to be thicker than the Pixel Watch 3 to accommodate new sensors and larger batteries. However, this thickness is offset by a removable back plate, making the watch easier to repair.

The Pixel Watch 4 also boasts a brighter display for improved visibility. In terms of colour options, users can look forward to new choices such as black (Obsidian), silver (Porcelain), gold (Lemon), and a blueish-gray called Moonstone.

Similar Sizes, Incompatible Chargers

The Pixel Watch 4 maintains two sizes similar to the previous generation: 41mm and 45mm. However, the new side charger means that prior Pixel Watch chargers will be incompatible with the Pixel Watch 4.

In summary, the Pixel Watch 4’s charging system differs by relocating the charging contacts to the side, enabling faster charging and new user-friendly features. These changes, alongside design updates focused on durability, sensor expansion, display improvements, and new color options, reflect Google’s effort to make the Pixel Watch 4 more functional and convenient compared to past iterations.
