Performance Car Magazine Closes, Leaving Staff Uncertain
Richard Meaden, a photographer at Performance Car magazine, returned to his desk yesterday to find that the publication had closed. The announcement came nine days after the deadline for Meaden's article, which featured a striking image of a Jaguar XKR in action.
Meaden's photograph, capturing a moment of 'great oversteer', was praised by colleague John Barker. It had been considered for the magazine's cover. Barker himself had recently contributed a well-received review of a BMW M3, which Meaden appreciated.
Staff were told to complete their ongoing reviews and then leave the building. They were required to hand in their ID cards and driving shoes, marking the end of their time at the magazine. The head of Performance Car, whose name was not mentioned, made the announcement.
The closure of Performance Car magazine has left its staff, including Richard Meaden and John Barker, with uncertain futures. The magazine's final issue will be a compilation of its best work, including Meaden's Jaguar XKR photograph and Barker's BMW M3 review.
