Porsche's Iconic Boxster and Cayman Go Fully Electric by 2026
Porsche's commitment to electric vehicles remains strong. The iconic Boxster and Cayman Islands models are set to go fully electric, with hybrid versions also in the pipeline. The German automaker has revealed more details about its electrification plans.
The electric Boxster and Cayman Islands will be built on a shared platform with Audi's upcoming Concept C-based sports car, ensuring exclusive electric powertrains. Porsche aims to maintain the familiar, responsive, and mechanical driving experience, enhanced with a touch of electrified precision.
The next-generation 718 models will likely adopt a hybrid setup derived from the 911 GTS T-Hybrid system for their internal combustion engine variants. Audi will supply the electric motorization for the upcoming electric Boxster and Cayman Islands. The shared platform for these electric vehicles will be available starting in 2026.
Porsche is expected to retire the current turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine in the 718, making way for future models that will be six-cylinder-only.
Porsche's electric ambitions are clear with the planned all-electric Boxster and Cayman Islands models. The upcoming vehicles will offer both electric and internal combustion engine variants, ensuring a diverse range of options for customers. The shared platform and electrified powertrains promise an exciting future for these iconic sports cars.
