Reborn Hot Hatchback: Iconic Peugeot E-208 GTi Returns to the Scene

Title: Revving Up Again: The Peugeot E-208 GTi Makes a Sizzling Return

The iconic Peugeot 205 GTi, a cherished hot hatch among automobile enthusiasts, is making a much-awaited comeback. But this time, it's electric and packing a punch with more power while making fewer emissions.

Peugeot's compact car model, the 208, is approaching the end of its lifecycle. In the meantime, the French manufacturer is making a bold statement with the reintroduction of a GTi version inspired by the electric 208. The GTi badge, a testament to an old tradition, was last seen in the 208 generation between 2013 and 2018.

Unlike the three-door 205 GTi, the new 208 GTi comes as a stylish five-door. It boasts a more athletic appearance, with an extended track of 6 cm at the front and 3 cm at the rear, and a body that lies 3 cm lower. Distinctive 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels, larger brake discs at the front (355 mm), and a black diffuser at the rear with integrated LED rear fog light add a sporty edge to its design.

The Peugeot E-208 GTi is built on the foundation of the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, another model from the Stellantis group. It pumps out an impressive 280 PS (207 kW) with 345 Nm of torque, aided by a limited-slip differential. The car dash-to-60 mph in a quick 5.7 seconds, but its top speed is electronically limited to a respectable 180 km/h.

Inside, the 208 GTi exudes a spirited aura with red accents, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, Alcantara-trimmed sports seats, and everyday comfort thanks to supportive side bolsters. The battery capacity remains the same as the standard model, with a range of approximately 350 km. The exact pricing for the E-208 GTi is yet to be announced, but it's expected to be positioned lower than the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima, which currently retails for around €49,000.

So, gear up car enthusiasts, as the Peugeot E-208 GTi is set to make its appearance later this year!
