Reduced PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Storage to 825GB listed at original price - Overseas appearance of CFI-2116 model on Amazon
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition Undergoes Revision, Now Offers 1TB Storage
Sony has quietly updated its PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, introducing a new model that now offers 1TB of storage. The CFI-2116 revision, also known as 'Chassis E,' marks the return of the 825GB SSD in the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
This new revision was confirmed through various overseas Amazon listings and was silently released in Europe on Sept. 13. The revised PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is now available for purchase on Amazon Italy and Amazon Germany for €499.
However, it's important to note that this revised model has a 17.5% reduction in internal storage, with consumers losing close to 200GB, or 24%, of usable, high-speed storage. The original PlayStation 5 Digital Edition featured 825GB of internal storage, of which approximately 650GB was accessible to the user.
This shift to a 1TB storage capacity in the revised model represents an increase from the previous version, but it's worth considering the storage trade-off. The PlayStation 5 Slim, which was introduced earlier, also offers 1TB of storage.
Sony has also increased the pricing for the different PlayStation 5 models by $50 last month. As of May 2025, Sony has sold over 77 million units of the PlayStation 5.
It's currently unclear if the revised PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will be launched in regions outside of Europe. While it has been spotted on Amazon storefronts in European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, there is no official confirmation yet.
In conclusion, the revised PlayStation 5 Digital Edition offers a larger storage capacity but at the cost of a portion of usable, high-speed storage. Consumers are advised to carefully consider their storage needs before making a purchase.
