Apple Unveils Faster and More Powerful Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro
Apple has announced the latest addition to its Mac lineup, the Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips. The new Mac mini is now available for order, offering significant performance improvements over its Intel-based predecessor.
The Mac mini with M2 Pro is up to 14 times faster than the fastest Intel-based Mac mini, making it an ideal choice for professionals and creatives who demand high-performance computing. This enhanced speed is evident in various applications, such as Adobe Lightroom Classic, where the Mac mini with M2 Pro offers up to 5.5 times faster panoramic merge.
In Adobe Photoshop, the Mac mini with M2 Pro offers up to 50 percent faster filter and function performance, while the Mac mini with M2 delivers a similar improvement. This speed boost allows for smoother and faster workflows, saving valuable time for users.
The Mac mini with M2 Pro also delivers impressive graphics performance, offering up to 2.5 times faster graphics performance in Affinity Photo and up to 4.4 times faster object tracking in Final Cut Pro compared to the 27-inch iMac with Intel Core i7 and Radeon Pro 5500 XT.
Moreover, the Mac mini with M2 Pro features a 12-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, along with up to a 19-core GPU. The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro is available to order today, January 17, on Apple's website and in the Apple Store app in 27 countries and regions, including the US. Starting February 3, the Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro will be available in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, and New Zealand.
The next-generation Neural Engine in M2 Pro is 40 percent faster than M1, speeding up ML tasks like video analysis and image processing. M2 Pro also offers a powerful media engine, which speeds through the most popular video codecs and can simultaneously play up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps.
The Mac mini with M2 Pro delivers up to 4.2 times faster ProRes transcode in Final Cut Pro, and up to 2.8 times faster gameplay in Resident Evil Village compared to the previous-generation Mac mini with M1. M2 Pro also supports up to 32GB of memory.
