Deepal Unveils Long-range S05 Electric SUV Variants
Deepal, a sub-brand of Changan Automobile, has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of three long-range variants of the S05 SUV. The new models offer competitive range, fast charging times, and advanced technology features.
The S05 SUV, launched in October 2024, measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,880 mm. It is available in four battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, each with a CLTC range of 510 kilometers.
The standard BEV variant, available now, boasts a 460 km range, powered by a 56 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h. The SUV is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering 175 kW of power and driving the rear wheels.
A new extended-range BEV variant is set to launch on August 1, 2025. This model will feature a 620 km range, a 110 km improvement over the standard variant. CATL supplies the 3C battery technology for this extended-range model, ensuring quick charging and robust performance. The motor remains a single rear-mounted unit, offering 175 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque, also driving the rear wheels. The extended-range variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, slightly quicker than the standard model.
Both the standard and extended-range models share similar dimensions and interior features, including 20-inch alloy wheels, MacPherson front & multilink rear suspension, digital cockpit, ambient lighting, and a 15.4-inch 2.5K resolution touchscreen. The extended-range model also benefits from Huawei HiCar connectivity, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and equipped with Deepal AD PRO driving assistance.
Premium cabin features of the extended-range model include an augmented reality HUD, ventilated "Queen-class" seats, a panoramic sunroof, OTA updates, wireless charging pads, and advanced driver assistance systems like Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, lane-change assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
Deepal aims to achieve 500,000 sales in 2025. The two extended-range BEV variants have starting prices of RMB 135,900 and RMB 145,900, respectively. The S05 long-range variants can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.48 seconds. Deepal's new energy vehicle brand was announced in 2022.
At the current exchange rate of $1 = RMB 7.208, the starting prices for the extended-range models convert to approximately $18,700 and $20,300, respectively. The new S05 variants, including the extended-range models, have a range of 620 kilometers each. All three long-range variants are equipped with a 68.82-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL.
Deepal has seen significant growth, delivering 27,169 vehicles in July 2024, marking a year-on-year increase of 62.48 percent but a month-on-month decrease of 9.11 percent. From January to July 2024, the company delivered 170,405 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 69.42 percent. Deepal recently celebrated the production of its 400,000th car.
