SAC Launches MCAP to Cut Apparel Industry Emissions by 45% by 2030

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has introduced the Manufacturer Climate Action Program (MCAP), aiming to cut carbon emissions in the apparel industry. The SAC, a coalition of over 280 global members, is gauging interest in MCAP and plans to start implementation in 2024.

MCAP, created in collaboration with Nike and Target Corporation, focuses on reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions, where manufacturers have direct control. The program helps manufacturers set CO2 reduction goals, provides guidance and training, and encourages annual progress disclosure. By joining MCAP, companies can reduce energy use, save money, and meet customer business expectations. SAC aims for a minimum 45% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 as part of its strategic plan. Progress of MCAP will be tracked and made publicly available on the SAC website.

While specific companies committing to MCAP and current SAC members involved in its implementation were not identified, SAC is actively seeking member interest. MCAP's launch signals a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the apparel industry.
