Samsung's Strategies for Smartwatch Development in 2024: Unveiling the Details

Chilling tea on the Galaxy Watch Lineup:

It's been a buzz in the tech world ever since Samsung hinted at the Samsung Galaxy Ring alongside the release of the Galaxy S24 series. Rumors are rife about what this wearable could be, but let's not forget that Samsung's still rocking their smartwatches too!

Gossip has it that 2024 might just be the year Samsung pulls out all the stops for its wearables, with reports suggesting the company could launch a Samsung Galaxy Watch FE, a revamped design for the premium model, and an updated look for the regular Galaxy Watch. The design for the Galaxy Watch 7, however, seems to be a hot topic, with some rumors suggesting a shift towards a more rectangular shape to attract iPhone users.

Peeking behind the curtain:

Samsung usually updates its smartwatches in the summertime, typically alongside a smartphone release. Since the Note is no longer in production, the company now updates its smartwatches alongside the foldables. So, when the Z Fold and Z Flip get a makeover, we can expect our wearables to follow suit.

According to a fair amount of whispers, the event will take place nearly a month earlier in 2024 to capitalize on the Paris Olympics for promotional purposes.

Galaxy Watch 7:

Will the Galaxy Watch continue its circular charm or dabble with more rectangular lines? The rumor mill sees it that way. The design shift could be a hint that this release is aimed at converting iPhone users; however, the design rumors are not fully substantiated.

The biggest change to the Galaxy Watch 7 is likely to be its internal overhaul. Samsung is expected to update the watch's processor, possibly taking cues from the OnePlus Watch 2's co-processor playbook, to boost energy efficiency.

Samsung made headlines when they announced their developed sleep apnea feature for the Galaxy Watch gained FDA approval in the U.S., adding to their Korean approval. The feature is set to roll out to select wearable devices in the third quarter of this year, coinciding with the expected announcement of the new products.

Galaxy Watch "Pro":

Set to join the regular model, the Galaxy Watch 7 "Pro" is the updated version of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. A Korean regulatory listing suggests it will feature a generous 600mAh battery. Samsung seems to confirm the presence of a new premium model in their first quarter earnings report of the year, stating "For smartwatches, the MX Business will strive to meet demand for upgrades through the launch of new premium models."

Galaxy Watch "Fan Edition":

Samsung has a history of creating special editions of its hardware for fans. The "Fan Editions" don't offer all the bells and whistles of the flagship devices. The Galaxy Watch FE is expected to be a cheaper way to access a Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health, much like its smartphone counterparts.

There's some muddled chatter about the cost of the Galaxy Watch FE. The current price of the Galaxy Watch 6 is around $300. Will the Galaxy Watch FE be $100 cheaper? Only time will tell. Keep an eye on this space for updates as they surface.

As for the Galaxy Watch 8, rumors are already lingering, but there's no official word on its release date yet. It's likely that Samsung will make the grand reveal at their next major event, perhaps at the Galaxy Unpacked event later in 2025.
